Demand Prompts GM to Increase Production of New Chevrolet Bolt EV

The new Chevrolet Bolt EV has seen a dramatic sales increase in the first half of 2018. Designed to offer eco-friendly transportation for families, the Bolt EV has been flying off dealership lots faster than production can handle. To remedy the increase in demand, General Motors will increase production in the fourth quarter.

The electric crossover saw sales increase by 3.5 percent for the first half of 2018. So far, 7,858 Bolt EVs have left dealership lots this year. The model is currently produced at the Orion Assembly Plant near Detroit.

Following an increase in demand in North America and South Korea, GM will increase production of the Bolt EV by 20 percent in the fourth quarter. Global sales are up 40 percent in the first half of 2018.

“The extra production coming on line should be enough to help us keep growing global Bolt EV sales, rebuild our U.S. dealer inventory and bring us another step closer to our vision of a world with zero emissions,” said Kurt McNeil, U.S. vice president of sales operations.

Featuring an impressive 238-mile driving range on a full charge, the Chevrolet Bolt EV is perfect for traveling with friends and family.* Innovative technologies, such as Regen on Demand and One-Pedal Driving, help preserve battery power to offer an extended range.
